Information
Every collection begins with a gesture. Sometimes it’s an intuition, other times a stroke of luck — often, it’s a passion that finds its place.
The Two Collection, however, was born from a dialogue: an ongoing exchange between two people who, before becoming collectors, were colleagues and friends.
Diego Bergamaschi and Oliviero Falconi first met in the late 1990s in the banking world, but it was art that truly brought them together. A mutual friend introduced them on this shared ground, and from there began a journey made of visits to fairs and exhibitions, spirited conversations about emerging artists, curiosity, and research.
Their daily closeness evolved into an intellectual laboratory — a fertile ground where dialogue nurtured knowledge, and knowledge sparked the desire to collect.
And so, almost by osmosis, the idea of a shared collection took shape.
The Two Collection was founded in 2009, the result of a deep mutual understanding and a shared ambition: to grow together through art.
It wasn’t just about acquiring works, but about confronting — together — the doubts, questions, and uncertainties that come with starting out, and turning inexperience into a meaningful path. Dialogue, mutual listening, and the pleasure of exchange became tools to refine their taste, expand their knowledge, and make collecting an inclusive, shared, and open experience.
“As a start, we would say: let’s open a file on this artist,” recalls Oliviero.
That’s how it began — with a name, a piece seen at a fair, a hunch. They would go back to look again, to follow the evolution of a practice. And often — not by chance — those very artists would later gain visibility and recognition in the art world.
The choice of medium was anything but accidental: the collection’s common thread is paper.
Works on paper — small in scale, domestic, intimate — often no larger than an A4 sheet — invite a close, focused viewing experience. Even when the medium expands to photography, slides, or small installations, the scale remains intentionally modest: a “proximity format” that demands attention and gives back intensity.
Step by step, piece by piece, The Two Collection has become not only an artistic journey, but a human one — a collection that reflects a clear belief: that things done together, even on a small scale, can become something greater.
And that art, more than a possession, is a form of connection.
