Vanessa Billy

Vanessa Billy earned her BA in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art in London in 2001, after a year abroad at Cooper Union School in New York in 2000. In 2008, she took part in the artist residency program at the Christoph Merian Foundation in Basel.

Her work stems from a deep interest in materiality and the way humans relate to matter and the environment.

As the artist herself puts it: “We are made of that world, from the iron that flows in our blood to the plastic that accumulates in our cells. Plants and fossilized organisms release the energy we depend on to produce the conditions we desire for life, influencing the health of both our bodies and the planet.”
