Alberto Guidato

Alberto Guidato studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. In 2001, he took part in the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como, curated by Angela Vettese and Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, with the participation of Marina Abramović. Over the years, he has received numerous awards, including the Prix Spécial du Jury at FIAV.2k3 in Tavira, Portugal (2003), the Talk to the City Prize from DOCVA in Milan (2005), and in 2017, the Benemerenza Civica Servizio from GAMeC in Bergamo.
His practice is based on a constant tension between two seemingly opposing poles: on one side, a reflection on biblical and spiritual themes; on the other, the aesthetics of underground culture and electronic music. In his works on paper — often made on recycled cardboard using black and fluorescent markers — symbols of religious tradition coexist with the visual language of concerts, CD covers, and fanzines. His visual world evokes, in its intensity, both Hilma af Klint and the psychedelic universes of Pink Floyd album art.
Among his most representative works are the diptych Ap Gv 21 (2006–2007), the Ap Gv 22,2 series on paper (2007) inspired by the Apocalypse of Saint John, Genesi 1, 2 (2010) related to the Book of Genesis, I tre colori delle tuniche del Paradiso (2011), La Trasfigurazione and L’altro Mondo (both 2012). A coherent body of work that opens the legacy of painting to visionary and unexpected horizons.
