Victoria Stoian

Chișinău (Moldova) – 1987.

Lives and works in Turin, IT.

Victoria Stoian’s artistic research focuses on the stories, as well as on the history, traditions, and geography of her homeland, Moldova, and its cultural diversity. Through an extensive series of works, the artist narrates the historical and natural events of her native land. For example, the Codri Earthquake project comprises 52 paintings, one for each second of the 2011 earthquake. The Nistru Confines series, which will include approximately 400 works upon completion, retraces the border of the Nistru River, marked by tensions with the secessionist Transnistria region. Her canvases lack preparatory drawings: colour appears as a stain, a glaze, or a stylization of figurative elements, inviting the viewer to recall details of events, objects, and people. Each form on the canvas is a self-contained world, complete only when seen together with others.

Notable solo exhibitions include: Galleria Peola Simondi, Turin (2023); Studio La Città, Verona (2023, 2015); Galleria Alberto Peola, Turin (2018, 2015). She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including: Perspective Galerie, Paris (2024); Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli (2023); Museo Ettore Fico, Turin (2022); Galleria Giuseppe Pero, Milan (2018, 2017, 2015). Her works are held in prestigious collections, including the CRC Foundation in Cuneo. Victoria Stoian was among the winners of the #raccontoplurale award promoted by the CRT Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art (2020) and the Bando Distruzione (2021) by the CRC Foundation.
