15. CLARICE ROSADAS

Image – Word – Memory – Recording – Erasure

Graduated in Cultural Production from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), she studied curating and lithography at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage.

Her research, heavily influenced by issues related to psychoanalysis, starts with the word and its relationship with image, writing, memory, recording, listening, and erasure. The supporting materials for her works vary between canvases, paper, wood, books, and objects of small and medium formats, often presented as sets or mosaics. The artist also explores a technique of transferring residues and materials using masking tape. The result of these processes is a trace or fragment of the starting point, where words are lost, and letters dissolve into line and matter, detaching from their initial meaning.

Clarice Rosadas’ art is a flow of strokes and emotions. Layer upon layer, the work evolves until other words reappear. The flow continues, and just as in psychoanalysis the unconscious influences the conscious and determines the course of a life, so in Clarice Rosadas’ canvases, the words that disappear and reappear dictate the direction of the works.
“The work ends when it gives me relief,” says Clarice.

She has participated in group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Niterói (2017), Jacarandá Art Clube/Galeria Aymoré (2018), Centro Cultural dos Correios (2023), Reserva Cultural Niterói (2019), Casa Voa (2019), Oásis (2019), Galeria de Arte Solar (2023), Galeria Multiplo Espaço de Arte (2020), Galeria Anita Schwartz (2024), as well as fairs like ArtRio and SP-Arte.

She held solo exhibitions “Desescrituras” (2021) and “Esquecer, Esquecer, Escrever” (2024) at the Centro Cultural dos Correios in Niterói and Rio de Janeiro, respectively.
